Women's Build
May 10, 2008
Lowe's sponsors Women's Builds with Habitat for Humanity to celebrate women's compassion, dedication and abilities. This year DeKalb Habitat participated in Women Build Day on May 10. Over 25 women joined together to work at our build on Chase Court. The following pictures document the fun that was had and the work that was accomplished.
The day began with each participant receiving a red Lowe's Women Build T-shirt. Tasks for the day included putting a second coat of paint on the exterior and priming and putting the first coat of paint on the interior.
Women climbed the scaffolding to reach peak of the roof to paint siding and trim.
By afternoon they were painting from the ground, UNDER, not ON, the scaffolding.
There was plenty to paint inside as well. Here a volunteer puts primer on the wall in the hallway;
While another volunteer does the cutting in at a corner in the living room.
Lunch was a welcome break, a chance to sit and chat with other volunteers and the homeowner (third from left).
Crew Leader Iyona Perez shows volunteer Nikki Smith how to place the ladder so it will be level and won't slip.
Late in the day, the scaffolding was taken down and carried to the trailer.
The porch needed crown molding to make it look good. Here two volunteers learn how to measure, cut and nail the molding in place.
The finished porch ceiling looks terrific.
Cleaning up is always the last chore of the day. It is also a time for talk and laughter.
Thanks to all of you who participated.
