What is a sponsor?
Sponsors are the foundation of our work! A sponsor is an individual or organization (or a group of people or organizations) which provides funding for the expenses connected with constructing a Habitat home. Sponsors typically also providing the volunteer labor needed to build the home.

What amount of funding is needed to Sponsor a project?
Build - Sponsorship levels vary.  Typically sponsors contribute from $5000 up to $100,000 for a newly constructed house of three or four bedrooms home. In-kind donations can also be accepted as part of a sponsorship effort.

Renovate - Sponsors help fund renovated homes transforming formerly blighted properties in an attractive home for a Habitat Partner Family.  These sponsorships begin at $1000 up to $50,000 for a full house Rehab.

Revitalize - Groups are needed to help sponsor A Brush With Kindness days in our partner neighborhoods.  A Brush with Kindness is a program to assist low income seniors or those with disabilities with repairs that help them maintain their home. Sponsorships for ABWK begin with a Sponsor-a-Day for $250 up to $5000 for a whole house repair.

How many people are needed to construct a home? When does the work take place? How much time is required?
Generally between 20-25 volunteer laborers are needed to work each Saturday for sixteen consecutive Saturdays to construct a new Habitat house. This does not include the professionals who work throughout the week performing the more technical construction tasks.   Renovated homes are generally finished in  4 - 6 weeks.

What assistance does Habitat provide the sponsor in constructing the home?
DeKalb Habitat provides selected homesite and approves the select Family Partner. We also provide help with coordinating and scheduling volunteers and provide a professional construction manager to supervise non skilled construction volunteers. Other construction support may be provided depending on the needs of the project. The construction manager is also at the construction site on Saturdays to coordinate the day’s activities. The construction manager and the Construction Committee meets with the sponsor in advance of construction to organize their volunteers.
Who can be a sponsor?
Any organization can be a sponsor. We have had churches, civic groups, businesses, and foundations as sponsors.
Can an organization cosponsor a home if it does not have enough labor or funds to construct a full house?
Yes. Many of our homes have been built by organizations working together.

Why should my organization sponsor a home?
Because thousands of people in our community live in substandard housing and your organization can do something about it. As you give, you will receive. As the members of your organization work side-by-side along with the selected family, your organization will be united—perhaps as never before—by this life giving partnership.

How do I (we) become a sponsor?
Contact us at DeKalb Habitat, express your interest in sponsorship, and leave us your name and contact information. We will respond, answer any questions you may have and be glad to work with you.
