In 2009, Janice was accepted as a Family Partner with Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb. During a two year wait for construction on her home to begin, Janice and her family dedicated hundreds of Sweat Equity hours helping other Habitat families build their homes. "I have helped build one house from the ground up, painted, done yard work, learned how to install light fixtures, I have even put siding on the outside of a house. This also gives me the opportunity to pay it forward, and help others who need it."
Construction is now underway for this ranch style house with wheelchair ramp and widened doorways for easier access. Today, thanks to the support of generous sponsors and volunteers the Cotton family is working alongside others to transform a burned-out property into a place they will call home. "I am very appreciative to have been chosen by Habitat for Humanity, this will make my family's life much easier. It's a dream come true in so many ways, and well worth the wait."
