The Playhouse Build is an annual event held by Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb. Playhouses are built by groups from our community. Completed playhouses will be displayed on the Decatur Square and are auctioned off to private buyers at the end of April. Proceeds raised from this event benefit Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb to support our mission of building, renovating and revitalizing affordable homes in DeKalb County.

Groups, individuals, builders, and sponsors can all participate in the Playhouse Build.

Groups

Groups can sign up now to participate in Playhouse Build. Build dates will take place on March 10th, 24th, and 31st. Your group can join us on the build site to build, paint and decorate your playhouse or take your framed playhouse back to your location after the Framing Day on March 10th.

The build days offer the opportunity for groups to come together to frame, side and complete their playhouse with skilled Habitat construction volunteer guidance. 
Teams can then add their own custom touches to produce their final playhouse for display.


Professional Builders
 

Builders create their own design for a custom 4x6 (6'2" height) playhouse or choose to participate in the building of our pre-designed playhouse.   

Building the playhouse was a wonderful experience for our building materials store. My employees enjoyed showing off their skill set and even got their friends involved. It became a matter of company pride to build the best playhouse for DeKalb Habitat and get the highest bid. My employees were constantly asking if we were in the lead.  And there is always the added benefit that we did it for a great cause!

THE PLAYHOUSE BUILD

For organizations, especially professional builders and carpenters, this is a unique opportunity to showcase your business in a creative fashion by having your playhouse on public display in the heart of your community. 

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Registration is now open! 

Gather your volunteers to help build, paint and decorate your playhouse. Groups can join our structured build dates on March 10th, 24th, and 31st. Volunteers from our construction committee will be on site to assist groups with the playhouse construction. Papa John's (Tucker) has generously donated the build space for this event.
 

An entry donation of $250 covers basic framing materials and includes promotion of the business/organization in Playhouse Build publicity, display areas, and on the auction website. Groups will provide their own materials for: roofing, siding, interiors, and customization of the playhouse. Groups can then add their own creative touches to produce their final playhouse for display. Awards are given for the best designs!
